{"id":9458,"date":"2020-11-17T04:19:57","date_gmt":"2020-11-17T04:19:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cassowary.unitingchurch.org.au\/?p=9458"},"modified":"2020-11-17T04:19:58","modified_gmt":"2020-11-17T04:19:58","slug":"a-present-tense-god","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cassowary.unitingchurch.org.au\/?p=9458","title":{"rendered":"A Present Tense God"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Mark Virkler in his book \u201cCommunion with God\u201d comments that, \u201cA key to living with God is to live in the present tense.\u201d (p55) This poem by Helen Mallicoat speaks to that, so I\u2019d like to share it with you<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">I was regretting the past<br \/>\nAnd fearing the future.<br \/>\nSuddenly my Lord was speaking:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">&#8220;My name is I Am.&#8221;<br \/>\nHe paused.\u00a0I waited. He continued,<br \/>\n&#8220;When you live in the past,<br \/>\nWith its mistakes and regrets,<br \/>\nIt is hard. I am not there.<br \/>\nMy name is not I Was.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">&#8220;When you live in the future,<br \/>\nWith its problems and fears,<br \/>\nIt is hard. I am not there.<br \/>\nMy name is not I Will Be.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0&#8220;When you live in this moment,<br \/>\nIt is not hard. I am here.<br \/>\nMy name is I Am.&#8221;<!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">All we can do about the past is rejoice with God about the good times, look back and see some markers of where we have been, lay our guilt and brokenness at the foot of the cross, and hopefully learn from the school of consequences. The future is largely unknown and often full of fears, of which only 5% are realized (a statistic I heard somewhere). Most of the scenarios we run about our future never materialize.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Today is the day we have to live fully in the presence of Christ the King, the living God whose love is perfect, whose love cast out all fear.
