Weekly Pastoral Letter 11th April 2020

Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

I flicked through the opening verses of a few of Paul’s letters and toward the beginning of each was this same greeting/blessing/declaration.

In Paul’s letter to the Galatians he adds … “who gave himself for our sins to rescue us from the present age, according to the will of our God and Father, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen

Paul reminds us of Jesus’ Easter purpose in one powerful sentence. Jesus was the Father’s plan from the beginning – to give himself as a sacrifice, to exchange his life for ours – to rescue us from ‘the present age’ the age of human self-reign and self-rule under the influence of ‘the enemy of man’ and incorporate us into His reign and rule in His dominion.

I am writing this letter with much on my mind. Easter is upon us, this time when we gather together in awe and wonder and the goodness of God expressed through His Son Jesus. Yet we only gather online, or in small family pockets, hiding away from an enemy, encouraging one another, and praying in hope of a better future for ourselves and our loved ones. On good days we may even be able to look past ourselves and extend our concern and prayer to our neighbourhood, region, state and country. Continue reading “Weekly Pastoral Letter 11th April 2020”

Weekly Pastoral Letter 4th April 2020

Grace and peace to you from our Lord Jesus Christ. Once again I borrow a greeting from the apostle Paul, but I do so in the full knowledge of the power of such a blessing.

Grace has many definitions, but the one I mean for this letter is ‘ may the power of God that transforms us from sinner to saint be upon you’ and peace, the wholeness of God the abundance of God revealed in and through Jesus Christ also be with you. So I say again ‘grace and peace to you’.

I also want to commend you. I have been deeply moved and encouraged by the way we are being church while we are scattered. Thank you for the way you are without prompting caring for one another, sharing encouraging words, praying, engaging with the scriptures in pairs over the phone, and meeting face-to-face-online. What a blessings! Continue reading “Weekly Pastoral Letter 4th April 2020”

A pastoral letter from the ministry team

To the our brothers and sisters in Christ

The first thing I want to say is, you are in our prayers daily. We are concerned for your physical health, your emotional health and your spiritual health. Personally I’d like to say its easy to get overwhelmed in times like this, its easy to shift from feeling faithful to fearful in a blink. Please don’t beat yourself up we are in a period of life, that for most of us, we have never experienced. We know the impact of cyclone and flood but nothing on this global scale.

Let me share a few first thoughts and steps with you.

First, if its all getting too much please call us, call a friend – be honest.
Its a wild ride!   Continue reading “A pastoral letter from the ministry team”

Sunday services are suspended

Friends we have been directed to suspend our usual Sunday services. We are taking this step to suspend our “gathered church” in favour of what we will call the ‘scattered church’. Plans are in process to meet is smaller groups using the appropriate guidelines – it is here that we will keep connected with one another and support one another in worship, bible study, and prayer. The fundamental reason for this move is that this is how we believe we can ‘love our neighbour’ well. The other way we are going to connect is on Sunday 22nd at 10.30am we will meet online via Facebook live. If you click here it will take you there and you can follow us so that when it comes to 10.30am there we will be together. I’ll be writing to you all soon either by email or traditional mail. Expect a phone call from me or one of our church leadership.

Blessings Mark
