Why nobility might be the answer

A VIRTUE-LESS PEOPLE
Have you ever looked at society and wondered if nobility, morality, and sacredness have been eroded from the roots of our history? It can feel like we live in a day and age when morality has become relative, nobility is most often found in fictional stories, and virtue-less people consider righteous standards as religious oppression. With this at the forefront of our news articles, I’ve recently been wrestling with the question: “What does it mean to be noble?”

Now, the truth is without the grace of God we would all be enslaved to the sins of this world, entangled by the snares of the enemy, and chained to the lies about our identity. But, the truth is even in a world that tells us feelings are fact and our temptations should be embraced, we are not defined by either of these things, but rather by the virtues we cling to. All or Nothing

To just read the bible, attend church and avoid big sins – is this passionate wholehearted love for God?
Francois Felon,  The Seeking Heart

One of my favourite speakers/authors is a guy named Francis Chan. He is not afraid to say what he thinks and mostly what he thinks is worth thinking about. So here are a couple of thoughts from his book Crazy Love (p 24). Continue reading “All or Nothing”

On God’s side

Abraham Lincoln famously said, “My concern is not whether God is on our side; my greatest concern is to be on God’s side.”

Right after the American Civil War, the most brutal and divisive war in American history, the winning side was clearly tempted to triumphalism. But Lincoln felt the shame of the horrible conflict, the sin on all sides, and the need for humble repentance if there was ever to be reconciliation and unity again. Continue reading “On God’s side”

JESUS COULD NOT HEAL THE SICK

Neither could He deliver the tormented from demons or raise the dead. To believe otherwise is to ignore what He said about Himself, and more importantly, to miss the purpose of His self-imposed restriction to live as a man.

Jesus Christ said of Himself, “The Son can do nothing” (John 5:19). In the Greek language that word nothing has a unique meaning—it means nothing, just like it does in English! He was not God with skin on – He was not born with supernatural capabilities whatsoever! While He is 100 percent God, He chose to live with the same limitations that man would face once he was redeemed.  Continue reading “JESUS COULD NOT HEAL THE SICK”

Beyond Waiting

If you read last weeks newsletter or attended one of our services then you would be aware that the season of Advent has kicked off. We are in a season of preparation, anticipation, and waiting. Sometimes I think we like waiting because it means we do nothing. Francis Chan in his book ‘Crazy Love’ says “Most of us use “I’m waiting for God to reveal His calling on my life” as a means of avoiding action.”

Francis Chan throws out a very compelling challenge to us in this season of waiting … “Did you hear God calling you to sit in front of the television yesterday? Or to go on your last vacation? Or exercise this morning? Probably not, but you still did it. The point isn’t that television, vacations or exercise are wrong, but that we are quick to rationalize our entertainment and priorities yet are slow to commit to serving God.” Continue reading “Beyond Waiting “
