“So it was, when the Philistine arose and came and drew near to meet David, that David hurried and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine” (1 Samuel 17:48).
David’s passion was demonstrated when he ran at Goliath. He did not hesitate, but aggressively confronted the obstacle in his way. He ran at his problem and not away from it. He understood that procrastination would just make the problem bigger (and Goliath was pretty big already!)
I have a question for you: Are you running from things or to things? Those with victorious mindsets are learning to run at those things that are difficult to face. They know that procrastination drains power from life. They know that it usually won’t get easier later, so we must “bite the bullet” now and face our giants. What did Jesus come to do?
I invite you to sit down for a minute or two and make a list of the things that Jesus came to do. I did this recently and I found it breath-taking. All of us have in some way or another decided for ourselves the answer to the question and boxed in Jesus and therefore limited to our view-point the mission of God expressed in and through Jesus let alone the Holy Spirit.
Of course the answer we trot out is ‘He came to save us and set us free – to pay the price so that we might “get to heaven”’. But what else? What do our scriptures tell us? What do His words and actions, his prayers reveal as too God’s intent in and through Jesus. You will need a bigger piece of paper than you think and more time.
