What did Jesus come to do?

I invite you to sit down for a minute or two and make a list of the things that Jesus came to do. I did this recently and I found it breath-taking. All of us have in some way or another decided for ourselves the answer to the question and boxed in Jesus and therefore limited to our view-point the mission of God expressed in and through Jesus let alone the Holy Spirit.

Of course the answer we trot out is ‘He came to save us and set us free – to pay the price so that we might “get to heaven”’. But what else? What do our scriptures tell us? What do His words and actions, his prayers reveal as too God’s intent in and through Jesus. You will need a bigger piece of paper than you think and more time. You may have to let go of some well entrenched beliefs so that you might gain a fuller understanding

Why does this matter? It matters because in your list will be core values, foundations upon which our journey in faith is founded. Foundation stones that inform what matters and why we do what we do. I invite you to check out our ‘Key Values’ clearly stated on our CCUC website. Take another moment to weigh these up, allow them to shape how you express your faith.

God is good and His plan for us are always good.
Every person is created in the image of God and therefore is of a high value. God is committed to us – the ‘covenant of love’ He established through Jesus makes this clear. Relationships matter – our first priority is to contend for our relationship with God  and then every other relationship. Who we are when no one is looking counts.
Our calling is to worship God, proclaim the gospel,  grow in love with God and one another and deposit life in everyone in our sphere of influence.
We are naturally supernatural – Jesus won the keys of the Kingdom back and gave them to those who love Him
