Holy Spirit is the one Jesus sent. The fruits of the work of Holy Spirit are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control (Galatians 5:25). If these fruits are evident then you can be confident that Holy Spirit dwells in, and is at work through, you. In last weeks Sunday message I walked through many points of understanding about Holy Spirit. Let me share a few more thoughts on Holy Spirit that I have extracted from Ps Bill Johnson’s eCourse titled ‘Keys for Walking in the Supernatural’, as I find them helpful to keep in focus.
He shares these thoughts in light of the Jesus baptism (Luke 3:21-22) and time in the desert (Luke 4:1-4). I invite you ponder these comments and claim these truths for yourself.
We were born for the impossible.
- When you were born again, the spirit of resurrection took up residence inside your body and you now live under an open heaven. The Holy Spirit is in you, but He isn’t meant to stay there. He is meant to flow from you in order to impact the course of history. You were created to hunger for the impossible becoming possible through the name of Jesus.
- What qualifies you to do the impossible is not what you can do, but that you’re willing to do it. The Holy Spirit breathes upon your willingness to obey. He’s the one who empowers our words to make them eternally significant.
He’s in me for my sake, but He’s upon me for yours.
- We know that Jesus lives in us and will never leave us, but He doesn’t always rest upon us. When He rests upon us, it is for the purpose of significantly changing the environment we live in.
- When the Holy Spirit rests upon us like a dove perched on our shoulder, every step we take needs to be with the dove in mind. Every movement we make and every word we say must be conscious of the Spirit of God who has chosen to rest upon us.
We are meant to be a community of believers that attract people out of places of darkness into a place of refuge, health, safety, nourishment, and care.
- The words God gives us carry the DNA of God Himself. They carry His nature. God longs to reproduce His likeness, the reality of His thinking, His power, and His perspective into a group of people that have been created in His image.
- We have been placed in our city or in a particular situation as a light, but we need to keep in mind that the word of God established in our life attracts conflict. As soon as we are given a word, the enemy works to undermine the strength, beauty, and authority of that word. When a word is given, what the enemy wants to do is get you to question what God has said.
- Our responsibility is to protect that which God has said over us because we will encounter contradicting experiences of these words. We need to decide what we will feed our soul on.
- We have authority. We empower the lies of the enemy when we give attention to them.
We must refuse to allow the question to undermine what God has said.
- We cannot afford to lose sight of what He has said, what He thinks, and what He has purposed to happen.
- Every word that God promises you, He will fulfil, but some of what He says will not be fulfilled without our cooperation and obedience. We have a role to play.
- We need to hear, do, pray, and protect all that God has said.
We owe Him a lifestyle of the miraculous because He made it possible.
- He’s the only one who has the right to expect the impossible from our lives because He has created the context in which nothing is impossible for those who believe.
- We don’t have the luxury to hear a word from God and walk away unchanged. We can’t invite Him to speak and respond with disregard for what He has said.
