  • Jesus was never a people pleaser

    Jesus was unafraid to stir the pot, flip tables, or offend religious naysayers. He wasn’t a peacekeeper, He was a peacemaker.

    So often we are concerned about keeping conflict at bay and harmony on the horizon.

    But the truth is, the Prince of Peace is not concerned with pleasing people, instead, He is concerned with making peace. Sometimes that means offending the crowd to ensure that His Father is pleased.

    Jesus knew and lived out the truth of what it meant that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom (Proverbs 9:10). He cut through cultural and religious barriers in order to bring the Truth about who God is to the hearts of men.

    Over the last couple of years, we have seen the deep destruction of division portrayed across cultures, nations, and political propositions.

    The cultural climate has felt turbulent and tense to say the least. Yet, the truth is, often it’s not the storms of life that create the conditions of our hearts, they simply reveal them.

    It might be easy in our own frustration and offense to decide that the decisions, sins, or outcasts of society rightfully deserve to be treated differently. But, it’s the beautiful humility of Jesus portrayed in John 13 that rocks the cultural concept of justice, unravels our perceptions of people, and transforms the condition of our hearts.

    Moments before what Jesus knew would be the greatest and most grievous day in history, He knelt on His knee, poured water into a bowl, and washed the filthy feet of His disciples; knowing that two of the twelve would betray Him, He still invited them to take a seat, displaying a true act of humility.

  • What will you find at Christmas?

    This Christmas you will find what you’re looking for!
    It goes with out saying that
    “If you are searching for nothing – you’ll find nothing.”

    This Christmas, let us pay attention to the coming of Christ and the respond to the implications of His miraculous birth, His Spirit filled life, and His life giving death and resurrection.

    This Christmas God wants to give you three Christmas gifts that you’ll find if you seek them. Because as I said whatever you’re looking for is what you’ll find.
    You Can Find Forgiveness

    The Christmas You Can Find Peace of Mind
    Those who love your teachings till find true peace. (Ps. 119:165 NCV)

    You Can Find Eternal Life
    “The man who finds life will find it through trusting God.” (Rom. 1:17 TLB)

    Let this Christmas be the most memorable of your life –for all the right reasons! Search for life – life in Christ.

  • Preparing for the season

    Can you believe it’s that time of year again? Every year it seems that the holiday season sneaks up on us. It feels like we quickly move from our ‘dry season’ to hot and humid.  But, with the change of season is a sure sign that the holidays are underway. This past year has been full of monumental moments that have marked us and moved us forward in great faith and growing thankfulness. But, the truth is that sometimes the holiday season is a time that makes it hard to ignore the loss, loneliness, and lament in our life. It’s a present wrapped with a mix of experiences, emotions, and traditions. So, as we approach let me share some thoughts to help prepare our hearts and homes for everything that the holiday season brings.

    I absolutely love the holiday season and getting to spend so much quality time with my family, not to mention the amazing food! This season is such a full season — full of joy, full of people, and full of perspective of what’s really important in life. With this comes the temptation to become overwhelmed by the fullness—a full schedule, a full house, and maybe even a full stomach (if we’re being real!) In the hustle and bustle, I find that the cure for the sometimes impending stress is the very reason we get together in the first place — thankfulness. (more…)
